The Merc with a Mouth has a pretty face too

Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool. That kicks so much ass. Wade Wilson isn't supposed to be a very pretty person after he receives his healing factor; the mask hides hideous scarring and whatnot, but Reynolds has the mouth for the part. I doubt he'll break the fourth wall in the film, but I would be elated if he did. I like to describe Deadpool as a mix of the wit of Peter Parker and superpowers of Logan, but really, he's ninja spider-man. I haven't been following this that closely as I wasn't crazy about the X-Men Trilogy. It was alright, but it didn't really compare to the Spider-man series. I feel this film may have some redeeming potential, since it will include Gambit. In addition to the Wolverine origin film, they have one about Magneto in production, but it doesn't have it's own Wikipedia article yet.

Also, they cast Martian Manhunter for the Justice League movie, but that's not as cool. If that movie is a success, we can probably expect one about the Teen Titans 2 years later. Then maybe Legion of Superheroes, but probably not.

Stuff White People Like

When I first saw this blog I thought it was pretty brilliant satire. Haha, this is funny, I'm glad I'm not a yuppie, and so on. But as I progressed, I found myself fitting more and more of the white people profile. I listen to public radio (#44) and I like The Daily Show/Colbert Report (#35), but when I saw number 38, I knew I was a white person, even though I don't like dogs (#53) or coffee (#1). Now I'll probably try to follow this list as much as possible just because of how much I love #50.

Memes and Comedy

I woke up in a horrible mood. I slept too long, back hurts, poor dreams, etc. I complained all night in my other blog and a little this morning. Whatever, I don't want to whine here on Wafflecone right now. You don't come here to hear me complain. Actually, you don't come here.

In any case, I woke up and checked out NPR and Wired. A few stories stood out enough to make me post them, although not enthusiastically.

This and This.

This first is an NPR story about Second City, the preschool of SNL. It was kind of entertaining. I'm sure it'd be more entertaining to see them live and whatnot.

The second is about memes. You can't escape them. They pwn you.

Really, most of the stuff on either site is good at any given time. I especially enjoy In Character.

The Face of Finance

I was watching NBC's national newscast, I prefer Bryan William's droopy eyebrows to Katie Couric's fluffy delivery and the inconvenient timeslot of ABC, and was greatly concerned by the financial news. By greatly concerned, I mean, captivated by the face of Erin Burnett. I'm sorry Melissa Theuriau, we both knew it couldn't last forever.

Shut your Facebook!

I am in a pretty good mood today. You probably would be too, if your day consisted almost entirely of slack, as my Thursdays usually are. That said, I can't help but feel a little rebuffed by something which recently came to my attention. It is, of course, nothing of great importance, but when your days consist of thinking about video games, Arrested Development, and volcanoes (usually in that order) small things seem more significant.

Given my good mood, I ventured to open an email that I would usually classify as spam, since it is generated by a facebook application. It was one of those "compare people" applications. I rarely use it. I rarely use any of the applications actually. And I really should get rid of one of wall functions I have on there that don't really do anything. Most of them exist as some sort of virulent personality test that I have no interest in. Ideally, we'd know the people we are friends with intimately enough to know their basic ideologies and favorite movies, books, television series, politicians, quotes, deities, and historical figures (Meriwether Lewis for the win!). I also like to consider myself a humorous person. Whether I succeed at this, I don't feel fair to judge. But I try and like to think people know that I make an effort to make them laugh and whatnot. Perhaps this has some part in why I was so taken back to learn:

WHAT THE HELL PEOPLE?? I AM ZERO PERCENT FUNNY?! ZERO MOTHERFUCKING PERCENT?? I HATE YOU ALL!!!

There.

Now supposing anyone reads this, that should boost my score for "crazier". Which is already at 100%, but with only 1 vote. THE SAME 1 VOTE THAT SAYS I AM ZERO PERCENT FUNNY!!!

I'll now spend the next 6 posts denying that I really care that much about this. But seriously, I want to know who I was up against that caused me to lose, twice. I'm dwelling on this too much. I'll just rationalize it by saying that everyone just votes for the person they like more anyways.

Anyways, following this discovery, I went on a tirade to all 2 of the people I bother to talk to on aim, venting and the whatnot. I decided to go through and have what I thought in the moment to be a subtle sort of revenge: catharsis through that same compare friends application. It was going well until I hit this question:

This struck me as humorous in a plethora of ways. Some background information will be required. I will say that the girl on the left embodies many of the qualities I consider ideal in a mate (one of which is laughing at my jokes). The one on the right was a freshman when I was a senior in high school and appears to have filled out rather nicely, as I was telling Steve. I'm trying to find a way to describe this without making me sound like a complete bastard. That is probably not going to happen. Rather than an exhausting summation that will fail to redeem my image, I will present this article of conversation with my pal Steeeve with whom I first shared the capture and my juvenile quips.

Think geek just added these toys. You can apparently play laser tag with them, although the laser sounds sound nothing like the plasma sounds from the games, although they are probably the most realistic Halo accessory you can find outside of eBay auctions. The laser-tag aspect seems like an after thought almost. The receiver is a tiny belt buckle, which from experience with other laser tag systems (when i was little!) is that those are easy to hide or otherwise obscure to cheat, but with the price tag these have, I doubt many children were playing. My family used to have 6 lasertag guns that also the sensors on the gun to avoid this problem. The beams also bounced off walls, which was weird. I think Ethan has destroyed pretty much all of them by now. Laser tag was/is fun.

I'm way more likely to buy one of these though. This, though I am a little tempted, I could never buy because, as my sister says, would get me "gang raped." Though I wonder, do they contain UV protection?

There will be justice

When I first learned they were making this movie, I was kind of excited. Now, it's more...ehh... I wouldn't have minded if the writer's strike had killed it. All the actors are relative unknowns, which makes forecasting expectations difficult, but I feel confident saying that I don't like Adam Brody as The Flash. Also, they have a Batman franchise so why aren't they using Christian Bale in it? Maybe they won't get past preproduction..

Dorothy

I'm watching Clueless right now. Really. I used to watch the tv series when I was like 10, but I've never watched the movie. I don't usually sit through movies because I tend to wander off. Even now, I'm blogging and watching the movie. My family has been on a Jane Austen kick and I suggested my mom add Clueless the BlockBuster queue since it was adapted from Emma. I didn't expect her to actually add it, but I'm glad she did as it is quite enjoyable. If for no other reason than nostalgic elation. I mean, look how big those phones are! Anyways, there was a passing reference to the slang term friend of Dorothy and I was compelled to look it up on wikipedia. I had an epiphany and that episode of Arrested Development where Tobias is in prison researching a role and kills White Power Bill and becomes "Dorothy" just became much, much funnier. I want to work in something about Cher liking her step-brother in Clueless and the themes of Arrested Development, but really, it's a bit of a stretch. Paul Rudd is in like every third movie now too. Also, this part of Wikipedia is pretty humorous. After that I'm going to post a clip from the IT Crowd that I adore.

Friend of Dorothy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the early 1980s, the Naval Investigative Service was investigating homosexuality in the Chicago area. Agents discovered that gay men sometimes referred to themselves as "friends of Dorothy." Unaware of the historical meaning of the term, the NIS believed that a woman named Dorothy was at the center of a massive ring of homosexual military personnel in the Chicago area. The NIS launched an enormous hunt for Dorothy, hoping to find her and convince her to reveal the names of gay servicemembers.

McCain goes d(^o^)b

This may become my new favorite picture of McCain. It's too soon to tell. He does love the thumbs up. It must be his go-to victory pose. That makes a lot of sense now that I think about it; The V might be difficult for him. But I've seen at least 3 pictures of him doing the fonz.

Sharing with Friends

Ooh, just noticed the ScribeFire update kick in. Very pretty. I haven't decided if I'm going to add this application to my facebook yet. It looks neat, but I get weary right here:
  • DoubleTwist also forces you to create an online account, which
means your activity is traceable should DoubleTwist ever get
    subpoenaed.
Which seems fairly probable. Although I really like the idea of unlocking the songs iTunes has locked away.

Sappin' My Life Away

In an act of unadulterated fail, I bought myself a copy of The Orange Box using the tainted logic that it was (approximately) the amount of money I would have spent on a special someone for Thursday. Instead I spent it on my most special someone: myself. It has been a rewarding decision so far. And I haven't even ventured into the Half-Life series yet!

I was going to write something snarky here about how no one reads this and then does it really matter if posting rate declines because I'm too busy playing games, but I haven't the heart for it right now. I know I'd certainly be more inclined to post more often if I recieved feedback. Tell your friends!

I was referred to this related video and I enjoyed it. Maybe you will to. If not, I highly recommend checking out Portal anyways.
