The Articles on Wikipedia about Jeopardy are very informative

Aside from a mild fear of rejection (one year waiting period before reapplication ftl) and the gaping knowledge hole that is potent potables, it's the stupid anecdotes that provide the greatest deterrent for me. I don't feel I'm quite interesting enough yet. I want to make a good impression on Alex. Please follow that last link; it directs to the American Mustache Institute, proudly protecting the right of, and fighting discrimination against mustached Americans by promoting the growth, care and culture of the mustache. Before you get all up-ons about calling Canadian-born Alex Trebek an American, remember he has dual-citizenship and became naturalized in 1998, so there!

Tryouts for regular play games are administered to groups of people at scheduled dates and times. Upon arriving, contestant applicants are asked to fill out information sheets with their names, etc., and are asked to provide five anecdotes that may be used during the contestant interview portion of the show.
